At the heart of our school is a promise that we will do everything we can to enrich the lives of our students.
We are proud of the enriching opportunities we provide to our students and these grow year on year. Below are just some of the things students will have the opporunity to take part in:
We run the Bronze and Gold programmes. The number of participants increases year on year. Expeditions, camping and map reading are regular occurrences at Abbeyfield.
We have had a number of students who have achieved their gold award:
We look forward to seeing you in Year 9 when you can enrol on the Bronze award!
Our rocket club is well known in the surrounding area (not just for the noise)! We have been area champions on multiple occasions and have challenged in national competitions. We are extremely proud of our students achievements and weather permitting if you look up very high you may see a rocket one of our students has built. This enriching club is open to all from when you join the school!
There are plenty of Sports clubs here at Abbeyfield and these change term by term depending on the weather. We are regularly running clubs during break, lunch and after school. More information will be sent about these when you join the school. Some of our clubs are run by our Sports Ambassadors, these are Year 10 or above students who have taken a particular interest in sport and represent the school both in and outside of lessons.
Introduced in the last couple of years, we now have a thriving club of students who are eager to learn the art of coding. We primarily use Scratch and Python and have students who are very adept at writing computer code. Whilst being able to program is very useful, it also improves problem solving and logical thinking!
We provide the opportunity for Year 10 and Year 12 students to undertake work experience. This is usually towards the end of the academic year and provides students with a wide range of experiences. Here are some skills students may have not developed but throughout work experience may become more confident with:
We have opportunities for students to become House Leaders, Sports Ambassadors, House Captains, and Prefects. All of which will enable them to have a seat at our student council who are the voice-piece for students. In the student council you can funnel opinions and ideas into actions and work alongside the senior team to make Abbeyfield a better place for everyone.
We are well on our way to becoming officially recognised as a Centre of Financial Excellence. We have a number of student champions who have been providing workshops to our students and we are looking to roll this out to all Year groups. The programme covers a wide range of topics, some of which can be seen below:
At Abbeyfield, we have a group of students who feel passionately about supporting the environment and actively looking at ways to minimise the waste we produce.
A huge congratulations to the team for such fantastic effort and for gaining Silver Award status in such a short time!
